confused about campaign travel
Hello,
New member here. I just picked up the 4 in 1 collection a few days ago. I decided to roll a character on Nightfall wanting to experience the campaign content, now level 9. However, I have been trying to access Factions or Prophecies but the specific NPC's in Kamadan will not allow me to travel. The Embark Beach NPC quest givers say that I do not meet the requirements either to travel. I've checked the wiki about campaign travel and I'm still confused about why I can't travel to the other campaigns when my account is keyed for all of them. I'd like to stick with the same toon and not re-roll on the other campaigns. I'd appreciate any help. Thank you. |

The key to campaign travel is reaching a port town. However, this is not technically the case for Nightfall characters, who actually have to get to Consulate Docks before they can campaign hop. You can either keep progressing as you are (it's only 3 missions and their connecting primary quests before Consulate Docks is open to you), or you can take a shortcut by asking around Kamadan for a "ferry" to the Docks and the port town of your choice. It can sometimes be a bit difficult, comparatively, to find a ferry runner to the other campaigns, but they are available if you're in a hurry and don't want to wait to get there on your own.
Eye of the North travel will open up to you once you hit level 10. You'll get a message to talk to a certain NPC whenever you're in Kamadan (or Lion's Arch or Kaineng Center). And just to clarify why you're having trouble getting the Embark Beach NPCs to cooperate: They will only send you to outposts that you already have unlocked. |

Characters cannot travel among the campaigns the moment they are created. They have to meet certain requirements before they can unlock travel.
Nightfall characters have to reach the Consulate Docks outpost via the quest "The Time Is Nigh" first. While a low-level character can get a "ferry" to this outpost from a higher-level character who has that quest, I wouldn't recommend that for a new player. When you travel to Tyria, you'll arrive at an area designed for characters around level 12-15. When you travel to Cantha, you'll arrive at an area designed for characters around level 17-20. Getting to Consulate Docks by playing through the normal quest/mission chain will prepare you for this. |

Why wouldn't u recommend this? If you travel to kaineng when lvl3 for example and take a full hench party and start killing foes just outside the town, you get to lvl 10 in no time. Then go to EotN and repeatedly do Kilroy's punchout extravaganza and you are 20 within an hour. This is the fastest way to level up, if that is what u want :/

I'm with BrettM on this one. When you're talking about a NEW player, they're not going to have the experience, skills, or the resources necessary to get max weapons and armor to survive very long as a level 3 character taking on the Am Fah or the Jade Brotherhood. There's no fun in getting your butt kicked every 20 seconds. (It's fine for experienced folks, though.)

OK that's why I added "if thats what u want" in the end Of course I you should play the campains at least once before speeding through storylines for other purposes.

ETA: It did help level up my under-levelled heroes very quickly. And even though I didn't do a whole lot there (maybe half a dozen quests at most, plus the necessary brawling to get to and from said quests), I got over 5% of Cantha explored - is it a very small map? All I saw were the docks, Kaineng Centre, and a few allys adjacent. I would recommend popping up to EoTN at 10 for the heroes - but if you're anything like me, make sure to have a speed boost of some sort on your skillbar, you'll need it for the run after the cinematic. You can get Vekk and Ogden just for doing that, but the quest to go to the HoM and talk a bit and look into the scrying pool will get you Gwen as well, and I think you can grab a Norn bounty for the walk there from Boreal Station - the stuff you'll run into on the path isn't that hard to kill if you bring your Nightfall heroes. Weird thing I haven't figured out a why to yet - if I click the boat on my map, I can go to Temple of Balthazar, Cantha, or Tyria from Kamadan, but to go to EoTN, I have to go to Embark Beach (the place of counterintuitiveness where travel to the north is in the south, and travel to that southiest place, Elona, is in the north). If you've already unlocked travel to the North by exploring the chasm and arriving at Boreal Station, you can map travel back there from any campaign by clicking on the purple Asura Gate icon (one each next to Lion's Arch, Kaineng Center, and Kamadan). Additionally, because the North areas take place on the same continent as Prophecies does, you can map travel to any North outpost you've unlocked while on the Prophecies map (and most of the North action actually is located north of all the Prophecies areas, with the exception of Asura territory). |
